About Me

I am Lawrence Weber, a general lover of digital things, Head of Digital at Karmarama, FWA judge and writer, contributor to brand-e and a member of the IPA Digital Business Group.

If you really need to, then you can take a look at my LinkedIn profile or FWA interview for all the detail, but stay here for interesting stuff I find and some stuff of my own.

BTW- I live on an island called West Mersea, hence the oh so clever name of this blog.

Chase & Status- Count on me video launches IN Twitter

This is very good.

Go here and follow the instructions

It's like one of those slightly old school page takeovers, where a page personal to you is dismantled.

But it's on Twitter and instead of a slightly dubious brand experience you got a shiny new video from Chase & Status

Instagram and YouTube- two changes same story

It's not news that the digital services we rely on on for self expression and connection at some point become less about us and more about them.

YouTube's announcement that they are turning off responses this week and Instagram confirming ads will appear in the newsfeed soon, show the tension that exists between what we want from our digital services and how they have to change to make money and exists as businesses.

It's a simple equation really, if we want things for free we need to pay for them with ads or in the case of the YouTube annoucement, accept that the UE will change to make the world simpler for brands and content owners.

As long as the bulk of users feel they still get a net benefit all is good. It's down to agencies and brands to watch for the tipping point and keep iterating and revaluating our strategies though.

Made by MOG- Good music makes good juice

This is a tangential but interesting way to promote a new music service.

MOG the streaming music service gave music to a fruit farmer and conducted an experiment to understand what affect the music had on the quality of the fruit grown and the juice made from it.

As an extra twist MOG invited users to make their own mix and the winner's drink was produced.

Old Spice- Job Interview

As part of the Wolf inspired Old Spice campaign, this is a nice spin on the webcam interactive piece.

You need to stare out your interviewer without blinking or moving your eyes, as increasingly obscure objects invade your peripheral vision.

It's written with lots of humour and the eye tracking is really accurate.

Shame you can't out stare other players though.
